| Choices, life is full of them. We as police officers must daily confront people who have made poor choices in violating the law. How many times have we arrested someone and heard them begging us not to take them to jail, and then reminded them that the violation was their choice. Well, we too have chosen to violate the law, God's law that is! Because of our sin nature that dates all the way back to Adam and Eve, we are all guilty before God. Our sin separates us from God and imposes a horrific sentence upon us. But thank God, He is offering us a free pardon. The sole purpose for Jesus Christ, God's Son going to the cross, was to take our sentence upon Himself. He suffered and died on that cross, and then rose again three days later as a perfect sacrifice for our sins. Through the blood He shed, He offers us forgiveness and eternal life with Him in Heaven. To receive His gift, we must turn from our sins and by faith receive Him as Lord and Savior. It's a choice we all must make, and it should be a simple one. Think of it like this; as we go through life we are on a path and none of us know when we will reach the end. On this path, we come to a place where it spits into two directions. One leads to eternal death, and the other to eternal life. The choice is ours, and no one can make us choose one or the other. To not make a choice is a choice in itself. Because you see there is a natural slope in the terrain that is pushing everyone toward the path to death, and it takes a deliberate choice to turn from it, unto the path to life. Which path will you take? Take a minute to read some of the verses below, and it's my prayer that you will choose life. Oh yeah, one other important fact! No matter where you are on that path right now, God wants to put you on the right one, if you will choose Him. God's Simple Plan of Salvation Our Guilt: "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23) "As it is written, there is none righteous, no, not one." (Romans 3:10) We have all missed the mark. No matter how many good things we do, we cannot match up to the holiness of God. It is a holiness that our minds cannot begin to comprehend. Our Penalty: "Wherefore as by one man [Adam] sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned." (Romans 5:12) "For the wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23 a) see the second part of this verse below God's holiness demands that there be punishment for our sin, and that punishment is spiritual death, which equals eternal separation from God in Hell. Our Gift: "but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." (Romans 6:23 b) "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16) "for by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9) Salvation is a free gift from God and is offered by His grace (undeserved favor). This gift must be received and cannot be earned by trying to be a good person instead. No amount of good deeds will earn us right standing and forgiveness before God. Salvation is based solely on our faith (confidence) in Jesus Christ, and His finished work on the cross. Our Choice: "But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the son's of God, even to them that believe on His name." (John 1:12) "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." (Romans 10:9) God is offering this gift of eternal life to you right now. He loves you, He created you, and He desires a close personal relationship with you. However, He will never force you to come to Him. He gave us a free will, so that we could make choices. The decision is yours my friend, I pray you will choose life and enter into an exciting relationship with the Father. If this is your choice then talk to Him right now in prayer and invite Him into your heart and life. Below is an example of what you can say, or you may use your own words. Remember, it's not special words we come up with, but rather God sees our heart as we make a decision to turn to Him. Lord Jesus, I come before You confessing that I am a sinner in need of a Savior. I believe that You died on the cross to pay my sin debt. I ask You to forgive me of my sins and the best I know how I turn from my sins to you. Please come into my heart and save me, and help me to live for You from now on. Amen. If you sincerely prayed this prayer then God has just saved you. We welcome you to the family of God, and would love to hear about your decision. |
