| Hello, and thank you for your interest in this ministry! Please allow me to introduce my family and briefly share my testimony. First of all, my name is Brian Stewart and with a chuckle, I can say that at 40 years old I am no where near where I planned on being at this point in my life, nor doing what I planned on doing. With a love for law enforcement and a fear of public speaking, the last thing I would have chosen to do is leave my career to be a preacher. So to see where I have landed, those who know me best have to laugh and say WOW, look what God did. Growing up I spent little time in church, and as a teenager I drifted down the wrong path. I spent most of my time with a group of friends engaging in what I will just say was self destructive behavior. In 1989, at the age of 18, another friend who knew Christ began to persistently invite me to her church, and finally I agreed to go with her. Under the preaching of God's Word I realized that I was lost, and in need of a Savior. A short time later I received Christ as my Savior and He brought about a radical change in my life. Suddenly, I found my desires for the things I used to do had changed. I began growing in my new relationship with Christ and started serving on a bus route picking up children for Sunday morning church. I served on the bus route until 1992 when I left to attend Tennessee Temple University. Due to finances, I had to return home again and began working at a local company while seeking God's direction for my life. I had a long time desire to be in law enforcement, and that desire seemed to be getting stronger, so prayerfully I decided to pursue it. A door opened in 1994 for me to begin working at the Houston County Sheriff's Office in Warner Robins, Georgia. I started working in the jail and worked through the ranks to become a shift commander in the patrol division. I enjoyed serving as a sheriff's deputy and had the privilege of working for an outstanding department. However, I still had a desire to be a Georgia State Trooper, and in 2001 that door also opened. I was hired by the Georgia State Patrol and assigned to the Governor's Mansion in Atlanta until the next Trooper school which started a short time later. During the 7 month school I had the privilege of being elected as class chaplain, and after graduation I was sent back to patrol the Atlanta area. After a year I was able to transfer to my home territory being assigned to Post 15 Perry, where I also served as a FLIR operator in the Aviation Unit. I was very content in my career as a Trooper and planned to retire from that position someday. However, God had a better plan. He began stirring my heart for ministry which to be honest, at first scared me to death. I was more comfortable confronting criminals on a dark highway than I was standing behind a pulpit. Nervously, I continued seeking His direction and He made it clear that he was calling me to reach police officers. Soon He helped me realize that all the things I had worked for and wanted could not be compared to the thrill of totally surrendering my life to the Lord Jesus Christ. Step by step He has led me to start Simple Message Ministries, and to resign as a Trooper effective June 2007. Thankfully, I have also been blessed with a terrific and supportive wife, who also desires to follow God's will. Tammy and I were married in April 1996. She majored in Christianity in college, and believed she would someday marry a preacher. We were introduced by mutual friends at separate churches, and even though she had to settle for a lawman instead of a preacher, we quickly knew that the Lord had brought us together. She had a strong desire to be a stay at home mom, but after trying for 9 years we had almost given up on having children. Finally, she became pregnant with our son Jonathan, but at six and a half months into the pregnancy we lost him due to a cord accident in the womb. Needless to say we were devastated, but the Lord wasn't through. By God's grace, He has now blessed us with four healthy children; Summer who is 5, Seth who is 4, Samuel who is 1, and newly arrived Sydney. So now I can join the ranks with those who say the Lord has a sense of humor. We went from just the two of us and a 2100 sq ft house, to six of us living in a travel trailer. Some joke with me, and say just think how many children you would have if you surrendered to the Lord's call earlier. But all kidding aside, we are thankful for the privilege of serving the Most High in this capacity, and for the time we can spend together. |
